Marin County at the Golden Gate Bridge.
|
| I received a grant to construct a sculpture in Marin County. The countryside there is so beautiful I did not want to violate it so I designed Signs of Wealth. Small signs to be placed on the major freeway in totally inaccessable areas , physically and visually ...something to just catch the corner of your eye and make you wonder while you were driving...Sculpture for 60 miles per hour. The Marin Arts council decided they wanted it to be situated where people could stop and see it. But, the sculptures had a spinning sign (as well as top) which could injure a person if they were careless, SO, I had to get these spinning components out of reach of the average over-zealous observer. The sculpture became 19 feet tall , and used up the entire budget (there were supposed to be 6). It was located at the first tourist turnaround on the Marin county side of the Golden Gate Bridge. |

The traffic signs were simple dot and dash graffics . Positive and negative on opposite sides of the signs . When spinning they would produce a strobe effect , similar to which one experiences when driving too long at night. (white line fever) . |
thankyou Francisco Perez and wildman Hank Davallo for the crane service.
